IN MEMORIUM John A. Eudes 1947-2011

February 16th, 2011 No comments

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of John A. Eudes, after a courageous battle with cancer. John was an innovative leader in healthcare marketing, a Greystone.Net founder and the chief architect of the Annual Healthcare Internet Conference, now in its 15th year. He was a mentor to many in this industry, a change agent with an enormous passion, an amazing friend and a constant source of inspiration and motivation. For over 35 years, John served our industry as a visionary and to the very end was dedicated to moving healthcare marketing and the Web to new levels within hospitals and healthcare systems. John will be greatly missed by all of us, but his energetic spirit and contributions will live on.

Are you attending this year’s Webmaster Workshop?

May 26th, 2010 No comments

Every year, Greystone’s Webmaster Workshops are a great opportunity for us to get together and spend a few days focused on best practices and state of the Web in hospitals and health systems. Different than the annual Healthcare Internet Conference, the two-day Webmaster Workshops are a seminar format, designed for attendees to really have an opportunity to share focus on learning and networking. The schedule this year has been designed with an eye to discussing issues many individuals responsible for the Web in their respective hospitals are facing. We all always learn a lot, and hopefully you have already registered to attend and learn with us!

The link between transparency and privacy

May 17th, 2010 No comments

Lately I’ve been thinking quite a lot about transparency in the online world. Transparency is, after all, one of the basic tenets of social media. You must be transparent to remain credible when it comes to social media. That’s been taught to all of us as we’ve jumped into the social media world. When social media first started on the scene, the ideal of transparency really ignited me. I thought the world would be changed over night. Power to the people, and all that. Organizations would now have to be transparent to their customers, and to the world. However, here we are five years later and we all have learned a lot. I’m not quite as optimistic on that ideal anymore. I do think the bar on transparency has been raised over the past few years, as there are many stories of companies being held to task by interested parties. And the amount and speed with which we all have access to information is still staggering to me. However, I also think that there is still a long way to go on full transparency.

A Philosophical Conundrum

December 9th, 2009 No comments

Long ago, in a place far away, I was in college (yes, Virginia, they had college back then). At that time I had an interesting debate with a philosophy professor in which I argued that everything is based on hedonism, since even the followers of Kant adhere to the tenets of duty because it makes them feel good. Since the professor graded the papers, I lost the debate.

The Opportunity and Challenge of Local Search

November 30th, 2009 No comments

Convincing a client to pursue local search is a no-brainer. Just show them one sample that lists their competitors at the top of the page with a nice map, and they are sold. Getting it done is another matter entirely.

Consumers Open to Brand Messages in Social Media

November 13th, 2009 No comments

I don’t know if that’s really news, but sometimes you need the data to back up what you know to be true. In this case, a presentation today at Ad:Tech will report the results of a joint study by Performics, the marketing arm of Publicis Groupe’s VivaKi Nerve Center, and ROI Research, an analytics and technology firm.

The End of the Destination Web Site?

November 10th, 2009 No comments

You know we think the world of Shel Holz, one of the leading social media and communications experts in the business.  After all, we’ve had him as a keynote presenter at our Healthcare Internet Conference three years running, and have done joint engagements with him. And usually we agree with him right down the line.

Back in the Saddle

November 5th, 2009 No comments

The Healthcare Internet Conference can be an exhilarating – and exhausting — ride. Even the proud owners of award winning sites go home with a long list of things to try or look into.  As we always say, nobody does everything the best, so even the best have something to learn.

An Embarrassment of Riches

October 29th, 2009 1 comment

Compared to the woes of many, this will sound trivial at best, but the one thing I hate about the Healthcare Internet Conference is deciding which sessions to attend. Laugh, if you want to, but I’m serious!
