Totally Hip …
As many of you know, I had a total right hip replacement about two weeks ago. I won’t bore you with all the details, but it isn’t the most fun I’ve ever had, but I’m looking forward to walking painfree sometime soon down the road. Right now, I seem to be progressing nicely and am a little dangerous on the walker, doing physical therapy three times a day and resting a lot.
It is interesting to see the hospital experience from the “patient” side — although frankly, I don’t care to do again anytime soon. I had my surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, and the experience was efficient and as pleasant as can be expected for someone undergoing surgery. The doctors were great, but the nurses make the difference, as they are taking care of you 99% of the time. The Emory nurses were responsive, friendly and kind.
As naive as I was, I thought I’d take advantage of the free wireless Internet connection in the hospital room — even have my laptop brought in so I could use it. But seriously, I could have cared less … between all the activity going on … taking vitals, doing PT, doing OT, walking, etc., who had time … any free time was dedicated to sleep … but I’m sure for non-surgical patients, it would be useful and obviously is great for visitors.
I’m still going to be out of the office for several weeks, but slowly I will start to get back in the swing of things. I do want to thank everyone for their prayers, their kind words and all the encouragement. It meant more to me than you will ever know. Thanks again, and I’ll look forward to seeing you all soon with my “totally” new hip.
Hopefully the toughest part is behind you and we hope you skip into the office when you come back!
From your lips to God’s ear …
